Single-Visit Convenience
Walk in with a damaged tooth and leave with a finished, permanent crown — no temporary, no second appointment. Most same-day crown cases are completed in about 90 minutes to two hours.
In-office design and milling for faster, precise restorations.
Same-day crowns use computer-aided design and in-office milling (CAD/CAM) to restore a damaged tooth in a single visit — no temporary crown, no messy impressions, and no return trip weeks later. We digitally scan your prepared tooth with the iTero scanner, design your crown on screen, and mill it from a solid block of high-strength ceramic while you wait.
Modern milling ceramics like lithium disilicate (e.max) and zirconia-reinforced materials offer an excellent balance of strength and natural aesthetics. The digital workflow gives us precise control over the crown’s shape, contacts, and occlusion (bite), resulting in restorations that fit accurately and look like natural teeth.
How same-day crowns work: After the tooth is prepared, we capture a detailed 3D scan using the iTero scanner — no goopy impressions needed. The scan is imported into our CAD software, where we design the crown’s anatomy, contour, and bite contacts digitally. You can watch the design take shape on screen. Once approved, the design file is sent to our in-office mill, which carves the crown from a ceramic block in about 15–20 minutes. We then try it in, make any final adjustments, stain and glaze for a natural appearance, and bond it permanently — all in the same appointment.
When same-day crowns are a great option: teeth weakened by large fillings or fractures, cracked or chipped teeth that need full coverage, teeth after root canal treatment, cosmetic improvements to misshapen or severely discolored teeth, and replacing old crowns that have failed. Some complex cases (multi-unit bridges, full-mouth reconstructions) may still benefit from lab fabrication, and we’ll recommend the best approach for your specific situation.

Digital scanning and CAD design eliminate the inaccuracies of traditional impressions. The result is a crown with precise margins, natural contours, and comfortable bite contact from the start.
Today’s ceramic materials are layered and translucent, mimicking the look of natural enamel. We can stain and glaze the crown chairside to match your surrounding teeth beautifully.
After numbing, we conservatively prepare (reshape) the tooth, removing damaged structure and creating the ideal form for a crown. An iTero scan captures every detail — no impression trays.
Using CAD software, we design the crown’s anatomy, shape, and bite contacts on screen. You can watch and we’ll explain the design choices.
The digital file is sent to our in-office mill, which carves the crown from a solid ceramic block. Milling takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
We try the crown in your mouth, verify the fit, check the bite, and make any refinements. The crown is stained and glazed for a natural, lifelike appearance.
The finished crown is bonded permanently with dental cement. We polish, verify your bite one final time, and send you home with care instructions — all in one visit.
Are same-day crowns as strong as lab-made crowns?
Modern milling ceramics like lithium disilicate (e.max) have compressive strength comparable to many lab-fabricated options. For most single-tooth restorations, same-day crowns perform excellently. Complex aesthetic cases or multi-unit bridges may benefit from lab work, and we’ll recommend the best option for your case.
Will I need a temporary crown?
No — that’s one of the biggest advantages. Because the permanent crown is made the same day, there’s no need for a temporary, which eliminates the risk of temporary crowns falling off or teeth sensitivity between appointments.
How long do same-day crowns last?
With proper care, same-day ceramic crowns typically last 10–15 years or longer. Longevity depends on factors like bite forces, oral hygiene, and habits like grinding. A night guard may be recommended if you clench or grind.
Does the procedure hurt?
The tooth is numbed with local anesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. Some patients experience mild sensitivity for a few days afterward, which typically resolves on its own.
How does the color match my other teeth?
We select a ceramic block that closely matches your natural tooth shade, then apply custom staining and glazing to replicate the translucency and character of your surrounding teeth. The result is a restoration that blends seamlessly.
Can any tooth get a same-day crown?
Most teeth requiring a single crown are candidates. Exceptions may include teeth with very little remaining structure (which may need a buildup first), heavily damaged teeth that require lab-level customization, or multi-unit bridge cases.
Is the milling loud?
The mill operates in a separate area and sounds similar to a quiet appliance. You won’t find it disruptive, and some patients enjoy watching the process on our screen.
Will insurance cover a same-day crown?
Most dental insurance plans cover crowns as a major restorative procedure, regardless of whether they’re made in-office or in a lab. We verify your benefits and provide a detailed estimate before treatment.
